Public health agencies in Nigeria led by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) are supporting several States in North West Nigeria to respond to a widespread outbreak of Cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM).

Given the size of the outbreak and the number of States affected, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control is leading a multi-agency CSM Outbreak Control Team to coordinate the response. This team includes representatives from the NPHCDA, World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, US Centers for Disease Control, Médecins Sans Frontières and EHealth Africa.

The World Cup hosts will still qualify automatically, with their slot taken from their confederation’s quota.

The recommended places for each confederation are:

Africa – 9 (up from 5)
Asia – 8 (up from 4 or 5)
Europe – 16 (up from 13)

Internet slangs are not new, and going by the fact that the computing profession, which gave birth to the world wide web is full of terms that either fuse existing words or run some word-play on them, cyber begging doesn’t come as much of a surprise. As you probably know, cyber-begging is a fusion of
In plain terms, cyber begging simply means, begging, the cyber way. It means begging for money or/and other resources from people via the internet. Being familiar with the fact that there are a lot of physical beggars in Nigeria, you might be surprised that people now do this over the internet.
A point of notice here. Cyber-begging should not be confused with crowdfunding (on platforms such as Kickstarter, GoFundMe, and Nigeria’s own GetFunded) where people essentially ask other people to support a cause or pay in advance for a product/technology the…

Senate Postpones Screening of REC Nominees over Executive’s Disregard for its Decisions

The Senate on Tuesday, stood down the confirmation of 27 Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for two weeks.
This followed a unanimous decision taken by the lawmakers at plenary as they raised concerns over the disregard of decisions of the National Assembly, by the executive.

According to most of the senators, the action of the executive in this regard, was a threat to the country’s democracy.

Sen. Peter Nwaboshi (PDP-Delta) said recent comments by Prof. Itse Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption (PACAC), on the senate’s power to confirm nominees of the president were uncalled for and unexpected of a professor of law.

He added that the senate, in spite of what anyone thinks, will always ensure that the tenets of true democracy were enthroned in the country.

“When they denigrate or disrespect an institution of this calibre it is worrisome.’’

“My position is that since our duty is merely to confirm…

Toping the list in no particular order is is Peter Okoye of P-Square musical duo and Lola Omotayo Lola is said to be 6 years older than Peter. Peter and his twin brother Paul were born on the 18th of November 1981. Although no one is saying anything concerning Lola’s precise date of birth, of course you know how it is with women and their age.
In an earlier interview years back, Lola addressed the age gap between them thus:

“Like I said, Peter is an old soul and he always tells me that I’m like a 23-year-old. Age is just a number. Right now, you can see it around the world. Demi Moore, Usher and some known people. Even in Nigeria here, they are dating people far older than their age. So, we shouldn’t base it on the age factor. He doesn’t make me feel like he’s younger than me.”

Next on the list is Dare Art-Alade and his wife Deola Ayeni. Deola is 8 years older than Darey yet they’ve been married for over 5 years with lovely kids…

Phone privacy among couples

Married couples share their opinions about the implications of checking one another’s mobile phones.

Mrs. Bisola Oluwole used to enjoy checking her husband’s mobile. She said that she wasn’t expecting to see anything unusual on his phone but she did it out of love.

The businesswoman added that she stopped doing so when she noticed that he did not like it.
She said, “My husband and I have different views about certain messages. In my opinion, I think it is best if married couples do not check one another’s phones. A spouse that will cheat will cheat whether one check’s his/her phone or not.’’
Phone privacy is a major issue in many homes. While some do not see any big deal in their partners checking their phones, others detest such and do not hesitate to say so whenever the need arises.

One of the latter is a UK-based comedian and compere, Ebenezer Oloyede, who strongly objected to partners checking one another’s phones.

He said, “It is about privacy and everybody is entitled to privacy.’’

Sanchez attends unveiling of his statue

Alexis Sanchez might not be the most popular figure at Arsenal at the moment, but he remains the centre of attention for all the right reasons in Chile.

The Gunners forward, who is expected to leave the Emirates after turning down a lucrative new contract, returned to his home city of Tocopilla to help unveil a statue of himself on Friday.

A large crowd turned out to see Sanchez cut a ribbon as the colorful effigy of him wearing a full Chile kit was revealed to the public.

As well as the statue of Sanchez himself, a large Arsenal crest and those of his former clubs are displayed on either side. A sculpture of the Copa America trophy Chile won in 2015 also sits proudly at the front.

The unveiling went ahead despite vandals damaging the crest of Chilean side Colo Colo, where Sanchez spent the 2006-07 season on loan.

The 28-year-old also posed with Hollywood Walk of Fame-style handprints and footprints.

According to reports, Sanchez wrote this message to sit alongside his handprints: ‘Never fe…

“Praise singers around President Buhari are the real enemies of the government” – Emir Sanusi

Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor and incumbent Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II has said that the enemies of the government are those who have refused to speak the truth and tell the present administration when it is taking a wrong step.

He disclosed this in an Instagram post on Friday.
The Praise singers around the President @MuhammaduBuhari are the real enemies of the government who could destroy his efforts.

I feel sorry for the people in government because they are surrounded by enemies. T‎he President needed people who will tell him where he goes wrong. I‎ ‎knew power was transient, I spoke the truth during my time at the Central Bank of Nigeria, no matter the consequences. Some were afraid to speak out against evil because they were afraid of losing their jobs. All the people they were afraid of years ago, where are they today? For those who are still in power, remember that it is transient,‎ If you want to be a true Nigerian, tell the present government where they’re …

An investigation by SR has revealed that Mr. O.A Ojo, a director in the National Assembly Service Commission at the center of a scandal in which fake documents were used to evade the payment of appropriate customs duties on a Range Rover imported for the use of Senate President Bukola Saraki, benefited from irregular and questionable promotion that catapulted him over numerous of his seniors in the civil service.

Some members of the Senate have demanded an investigation of the scandal, focusing particularly on Saraki’s possible role in generating fake documents for the clearance of one of his cars, and the loss of revenue to the Nigerian treasury occasioned by such sharp practices.

SR sources disclosed that Mr. Ojo, whose fingerprints were all over the scandal, was for some inexplicable reason elevated above colleagues with seniority in qualification or service. An architect by training, the controversial director signed the letter addressed to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to deman…
